Summer Activity with Special Event stations

The Club are looking at running a couple of Special Event Stations this summer at local events…

Over the weekend of 23-25th May we will have a field day style station near Odiham Castle to support the 800th celebration of the Magna Carta. There are expected to be activities and attractions including:

  • choral concert in All Saints’ Church featuring the first public performance of a specially commissioned Magna Carta Anthem
  • flower festival
  • art festival
  • medieval market
  • boat rally and canal trips on the Basingstoke Canal
  • guided walks around King John’s Castle
  • hog roast
  • archaeological dig
  • clog and morris dancing
  • medieval ale festival
  • archery contest.

As part of the celebrations the Hog’s Back Club will be running a special event station demonstrating amateur radio to the general public. It’s hoped to be able to include an ATV station transmitting to the Farnham GB3HV TV Repeater for onward broadcast over the Internet. Voice stations are also planned to work stations around the world, and hopefully to link up with other stations celebrating the anniversary of the Magna Carta.

If you are interested in helping, please contact Frank, M0AEU – the HBARC secretary. More details about the Magna Carta celebrations can be found here: http://magnacarta800th.com/events/odiham/

Dogmersfield Flower Show and fete – 18th July from 2pm.

Once again the HBARC will be supporting this event with a demonstration station… This year we will have our own tent and will be looking to demonstrate as many different modes of radio as possible. If you would be able to assist, please contact Bob, M0HDE, club chairman.
