A New Radio for the Club

We are delighted to announce that, at our meeting on 24th January, the Hog’s Back Amateur Radio Club was presented with a lovely Yaesu FT1000MP which will contribute greatly  to our presence on the air for special event stations such as Jamboree on the Air for the Scouts and Thinking Day on the Air for the Guides, amongst our other activities.

The radio belonged to Norman Vickerstaff G0VYR, who passed away in May 2010.  Many members, myself included, will remember Norman, his enthusiasm for our hobby and his willingness to help others less fortunate than himself. In a continuation of his spirit Peter and Rowena Vickerstaff wanted Norman’s radio to go to an organisation where it would be employed regularly to the benefit of those learning the hobby, perhaps without the resources to make such a purchase themselves.

The Hog’s Back Amateur Radio Club’s close links with the scout movement and impressive efforts to make last year’s Jamboree on the Air such a success for the scouts at Runway’s End convinced them that we would be worthy of taking on this challenge.

I would like to thank Peter and Rowena on behalf of the club for this generous donation.
